Understand the objective
The immediate goal is reading analogue clock hands and matching them to digital time. Before making a move, identify what counts as progress and what can end the round.
A reliable way to begin
Read the minute hand before checking the hour hand.
Use the clock numbers as groups of five minutes.
- Read the board before acting.
- Make one deliberate move at a time.
- Review what changed after each move.
Build consistency
Notice whether the hour hand is before, on or after an hour number.
Practise o'clock and half past before moving to five-minute intervals.
Common beginner errors
Most early losses come from speed rather than difficulty.
- Confusing the shorter hour hand with the longer minute hand.
- Reading the hour number without noticing that the hand has moved towards the next hour.
